Definitions

An assembly sequence defines the series of steps how (parts of) a product can be assembled. An assembly sequence can be (a) strict, where the sequence needs to be followed strictly or (b) relaxed, where parts of the sequence can also be executed at a later point. Nevertheless, a step in the assembly sequence requires all its (intermediate) input products to be finished. This assembly sequence serves as a foundation for designing an industrial production system, such as an automotive or cake-baking production system
